我的存在

通常問到"獨一無二"的英文,大家直覺應該是 "unique". 而我從 Desperate Housewives (Season 5, Episode 19 "Look Into Their Eyes and You See What They Know") 學到了另一個字 "one-of-a-kind".

這齣 TV series 一路看下來,從沒想過 Edie Britt (Nicollette Sheridan 飾) 會死掉離開. 我一直認為她的角色很重要,雖然她的臉一直沒有被放在下圖片頭的這張照片中. 但請仔細看看以下四位女主角,沒有一個人和 Edie Britt 是同一類型的 - a sexy blonde! 因此我一直覺得她是個不可或缺的角色. 可是,很明顯地,本劇的製片 - Marc Cherry 並不這麼認為. 有傳言說 Nicollette Sheridan 和 Marc Cherry 不太合拍,所以為了 cost cutting, Cherry 寧願砍 Edie Britt 這個角色,而非砍其它小配角.

不過編劇還是很有良心地給 Edie Britt 做了一集追念,讓觀眾再好好地看看她,也算是對觀眾有個交代,畢竟以後在本劇就看不到她哩! 而她在臨死前,依舊保有一貫的自信,並配上了這句自述:"I died just like I had lived, as the complete and utter center of attention."

當大家準備撒骨灰時, Lynette Scavo 提議每個人用一個字來形容 Edie Britt. Gaby 說 "Sexy", Bree 說 "Perceptive", Lynette 說 "Strong", Karen 說 "Beautiful". 當輪到 Susan 時,她說她無法只用一個字形容來 Edie,她需要用到四個字,而這四個字就是 "One of a kind" (獨一無二).
